I start to use real database with about 2,000 pdf for testing (with full backup archive).
After updating 4 custom metadata fields for about 1,000 pdf, I re-arranged the order of the fields by using Preference>Data. Right after the re-arrangement, all 4 custom metadata fields of all pdfs went blank in the inspector bar. Luckily, the fields re-appeared after 10 sec. I believe/hope that this is normal behaviour?

What do you mean by this - dragging and dropping to reorder them?

Yes, drag and drop to rearrange the display order. Just adding custom metadata fields to replace tags in the re-organisation process and need to rearrange the fields in more logical order (such as journal name, year, ranking, Europe/Asia/North America).
So you’re rearranging the items in the Preferences for an order that makes sense to you as displayed in Info Inspector > Custom, correct?
