A few newb questions

Hello, I’m not technically new to DT but am giving it another try. I’ve read a lot of the documentation and watched some tutorials, and maybe the answers are in there but quite frankly I’m overwhelmed. So I was wondering:

  • I’d like to save docs, but I also want to annotate quotes from them that are searchable just as quotes. From markdown, web archives, etc (not just pdf’s). What’s the best way to do this?
  • Can I make a smartrule that auto-sorts epub files from a DB inbox into it’s respective db’s ebooks folder?
  • Is there a way to download a web article and also download all pages it links to? Maybe this is a DevonAgent question.
  • I don’t have an iphone so no DT To Go. What android notes app integrates well w DT?
  • Is there a work-around for the Chrome plug in, which asks for permission on every new site clipped?

Sorry if any of this is low hanging fruit. It’s just hard to intake all the info when I’m not fully up-and-running yet. Thank you!!

I copy/paste quotes into separate individual notes,
with assigned tag CommonPlace-Quotes
These can be linked to the original document

fwiw Document contents are indexed for searching

You can filter by extension but it’s unclear what “it’s respective db’s ebooks folder” means? Just an EPUB group? Then yes, that would be simple to accomplish that specific task…

This requires the Pro or Server edition of DEVONthink. See the Windows > Download Manager section of the built-in Help and manual.

None. DEVONthink To Go runs on Apple mobile devices and you’re not connecting to DEVONthink on a Mac and browsing its databases. You’re also not storing the databases and documents online.

  • Is there a work-around for the Chrome plug in, which asks for permission on every new site clipped?

That is not a DEVONtech issue; it’s a Chrome behavior. We don’t control the browser, we just receive data it reports to the clipping extension. Beyond suggesting you stop using Chrome *(for a variety of reasons  ), look at…

Thanks for the replies!

I’ll have to look into that. I’m not up to speed yet on creating/linking child notes but it’s on the list :slightly_smiling_face:

I was imagining a rule that could run across multiple inboxes/databases and go from, say Unique-DB-Inbox to Unique-DB/Epub, without creating a new rule for each db. Thanks for the example!

Seems like people are using Obsidian and maybe Notion? I’ll read up on it elsewhere. TY.

Thanks all.

Actually, if you targeted Databases, that’s exactly what you’d get: EPUBs filed in a specific group per-database they’re in.

Out-of-the-box it would only work on documents dropped into the root of a database. But if you unchecked Exclude subgroups, it would gather all the EPUBs in all the groups and subgroups and file them all in one EPUB group in the database in which they’re located. This may or may not be desirable, depending on your need and perspective.
