I want to add a row at the bottom of a formatted note table. All my notes were exported from Apple Notes to HTML and then imported to DT3. This should be easy and doable, yet I cannot find any positive answers on this. Please helpl.
Formatted notes do not support creation or editing of tables. One workaround might be to convert them to rich text.
If you want to keep it as a Formatted Note, you can open the file in an external text editor and edit the HTML source directly.
Thanks, @cgrunenberg & @troejgaard. Thatās what I was afraid of.
I keep wanting to like Devonthink, but this is yet another of a simple thing other notes apps such as Apple Notes or UpNote have no problem with at all. It boggles my mind.
Oh, well. This was the longest run Iāve given to Devonthink. Guess it just goes back to my ānot ready for prime timeā apps.
DEVONthink is not a ānotes appā and not in competition with Apple Notes, UpNote, etc. Those are apps specifically built only for that purpose and logically put all their development attention on that narrow focus.
DEVONthink can be used for notes, but itās not specifically a note-taking app.
Is it important for you to use Formatted Notes? What is the problem with converting to rich text or markdown or something else?
You mean, āIn other apps, thereās a table format to which I can add rows easily,ā I guess. Because if weāre talking HTML, there is no easy way to add a row to a table element. Not in Notes, and probably not in UpNote either. HTML is a pain to write, especially tables.
So, apples vs. oranges. If you want easily editable documents, including tables, choose the best format for it ā perhaps rich text, perhaps markdown, perhaps Pages.
@troejgaard OK. How do I add a row to a rich text document??
You can insert a table in rich text.
You can also edit the table by choosing Format > Table or clicking this button in the Editing bar over the view/edit paneā¦
Are there DEVONthink users who use DT for all note-taking? If so, why vs using Obsidian, Logseq, Apple Notes, etc. Thank you
@BLUEFROG Gracias! Simple solution. Next, I donāt see the tool bar with the table icon (yes, Iām a newbie; please bear with me.) And, within the table from the Format menu, do I just have to eyeball the row width? I donāt see anything in the dialogue box of your previous answer to set row or column width. I very much appreciate the help.
Format > Show/Hide Editing Bar (ā§āE). Or click right-most icon in the navigation bar.
You can adjust column width and row height by dragging the dividers in the table.
I use DEVONthink for 95% of my notes.
Iāve talked about this before but I still stand by Appleās Stickies application and have for 20+ years.
