After Importing an Image, the Original Creation Date is Replaced with the Import Date

I used DT3 Image Capture → Devices to import a couple of images from my iPhone. After moving them from the Imports folder into my Global Inbox, I noticed that the image creation dates were all replaced with the import date. Is this a bug? It doesn’t seem like a feature—at least not a feature I’d want.
