After I had to restore my DT database on Mac from a Time Machine backup, all of my Markdown files have now been converted to plain text documents. Is there a way to convert them all back? Is the reason that this has happened known?
I’m running the latest version of Mac Tahoe 26.3 and the latest version of DT 4.2.1.
Post a screen capture of one of these documents with the Generic Info inspector open.
Thanks very much for the quick response.
DEVONthink gets this information from the Finder. What kind is shown in the Finder?
In Finder, the file name ends in .md, but its kind is a Plain Text Document.
There you are. The issue is in the operating system, not DEVONthink.
- Did you restore your Mac or is this as new installation?
- Have you installed and/or launched a bespoke Markdown application that registers this file type? If not, you need to.
Thanks, installing a Markdown file editor has solved the issue! That makes sense.
Because the latest Time Machine backup contained an unknown corrupted file somewhere that was causing an issue, Apple support instructed me to manually drag and drop folders/chunks of data one at a time from the backup to the newly wiped desktop, to check if the issue comes up again once that chunk of data has been copied (which would indicate that it contains the corrupted file). So it is a recovery, but not everything has been recovered at once.
You’re welcome.
chunks of data from… where?
