Has anyone tried using DT4 with Apple’s new MacBook Neo. It has 8GB RAM and I wonder if that is sufficient.
Thanks

While it’s sufficient to run DEVONthink, it won’t be sufficient for medium to large databases. It’s likely useful for less taxing databases, of which there are many out there in the universe. One point remains: if a machine supports it and you’re offered more RAM versus a bigger hard drive, opt for as much RAM as you can reasonably afford. It never hurts to have more RAM.
That is good to know. I have a mac-mini that I use most of the time. The Neo would be mostly for writing and reading and to replace my elderly iPad. DT would not be a primary consideration, but sometimes might be useful with a small database.
Thanks for the rapid response and info.
If you’re not in a hurry, memory prices may be starting to come down. Once they’re a bit more reasonable, I’d expect Apple to offer a version with more memory.
You’re welcome and bear in mind, small is relative, so it’s quite possible you could use the Neo with many of your databases. However, if you have 50-75GB+ databases full of 100,000 PDF documents, it may not be as performant.
Apple is using old iPhone chips for the Neo, and the A18 has only 8 GB of RAM. If there will be a second generation Neo next year, it is likely to use the A 19 which has 12 GB of RAM.
So if it is not urgent I would recommend to wait too.
As long as the AI companies are buying all memory they can get their hands on I doubt that the memory prices will be going down in the foreseeable future.
