Evernote is still export-unfriendly on a Mac, but I use this workaround in EN 3.x:
Select a range of notes you want to export
Under File/Export, choose Format = HTML
The resulting folder is one HTML page for each exported note, plus a subfolder of its related images
Open each HTML page in your browser and choose Save to DevonThink as Rich Text
This method is slightly faster than others described above, but it does have a big drawback – you lose the URL of the original web page. Instead, you get the path to the files & folders on your Desktop.
One EN feature I do like better than DT is EN’s “Simplify Formatting” command. It produces a vastly superior RTF than DT does… why can’t DT do that?
In DEVONthink Pro, I use the following solution which works fine for me: index the Evernote files from within DEVONthink.
1 - In DEVONthink Pro, choose menu File -> Index
2 - point to the location where Evernote stores its data in html-format:
[YourUserName] -> Library -> Application Support -> Evernote -> data -> [number] without the .obsolete extension -> content
3 - After confirmation of the location, DEVONthink will index all files in that folder and its subfolders (being the EverNote notes and its graphical content).
4 - After indexing, you will see the files and folders with the well known little arrow near the file name, indicating that they are indexed files. You then can search the files contents. Of course, the Evernote files remain where they are, in the Evernote-folder. Which is -to my opinion- not a bad thing, since I continue using Evernote for clipping webpages, but want these to be searchable within DEVONthink as well.
4 - If you continue using Evernote you need to rebuild the index on a regular basis. I do this e.g. once a week. Maybe this is even scriptable, did not try that.
Note: if your library is not visible (default for OSX 10.7) you can make the library visible:
temporary by using the Go menu while pressing the Option key or (better)
permanently by typing the following command line in the Terminal:
chflags nohidden /users/[yourusername]/library
Hope this brings a workable solution for you. For me, it most certainly does.
Actually, you can select multiple notes in Evernote and then select Print to DTPO once and all the selected notes will be printed to DT. The catch is that they are all imported “untitled”.
I’ve been using Justin’s two scripts (Evernote2DTP and DTP2Evernote) for several months now and they have worked beautifully. The only thing to remember is not to use colons and slashes in note titles in Evernote (import to DTP aborts then). You can find both at
