and there’s 1Writer, which works with the document picker as but doesn’t seem to want to recognize .markdown or .md files in DTTG as editable markdown, and will not open them – so

Not seeing that problem with 1Writer myself, with either .markdown or .md extension, on iPad or iPhone. What app are you using to create the documents?
