Blank pages after merging PDF

Thanks to everyone for the quick feedback and discussion here. Also for fixing it. I’m looking forward to the next release. Have a great weekend. :+1:

Same problem unique to DT 3.8.1. Using “Time Capsule” to restore DT 3.8, the problem disappears, so I advise users not requiring the other fixes in 3.8.1 to skip this version for now.

Workaround, import the added pages into DT 3.8.1 as a separate stand alone document. Use the merge documents command and the problem isn’t seen by me in 3.8.1.

Mac OS 12.2, iMac 27" 2020 version.

3.8.2 has arrived and - together with 2 pages worth of other improvements, features and fixes - the blank page problem has been solved  Thanks DEVONtech

Is it possible that the issue has returned with version 3.9.3? I get a blank page after copying it into another PDF (which wasn’t the case before). However if I open the amended document in Preview the added page appears in full, just not in DTPro.
Anything I am doing wrong?

MacStudio 2022, MacOS Ventura 13.6, DTPro 3.9.3

Only in case of certain PDFs or for all of them?

Unfortunately every time I do this…

We aren’t having other such reports.

Done!
Thanks for your quick reaction. It looks like the problem in version 3.8.1

I am also seeing this 3.8.1 behavior again in 3.9.3 - but only in some cases.

Don’t copy and paste. Drag and drop.
Issue resolved?

I am actually dragging and dropping, as I always do. I have two pdf files both selected with the thumbnails visible in the inspector. I drag one to the other. But all I get for the dragged pdf is a blank pdf after closing and reopening.

I am now using a simple script to merge the two and keep the appropriate metadata for my application.

The script is based on Merge PDF files but keep custom Meta data - #4 by cgrunenberg - DEVONthink - DEVONtechnologies Community

The script avoids the problem.

We aren’t seeing that here, only with copy and paste.
What version of DEVONthink and operating system?

Ventura 13.6 & DT 3.9.3

  • Is it happening with more than one set of documents?
  • Is it consistently reproducible?
  • Does it persist after rebooting the Mac?

I have a few hundred pairs of documents that I am merging as part of my accounting for 2022. I started yesterday doing what I always do - dragging and dropping - and all was well.

One of the pair has a single page pdf placeholder with the correct metadata. The other has the receipt (pdf) but no, or incorrect, metadata.

I would drag the receipt thumbnail(s) below the placeholder and then delete the placeholder.

All went well for a few 10s of pairs then I started getting the blank pdf.

The first time I was able to restart DT and it came back.

Later I had the same problem but couldn’t fix it even after a reboot.

That’s when I wrote the script.

So it was not every time when I first noticed it and it persisted after a reboot, with the exception of that one time reopening DT resolved the issue.

I haven’t spent a lot of time on the problem because I am in a time crunch and the script is working well for me.

I’m seeing this behavior as well every time I drag and drop pages to an existing PDF via the sidebar. A reboot doesn’t help.

This will be addressed in the next maintenance release.

Thanks, bluefrog!

Good news - happy that you were able to track it down.
