Can I edit an indexed document and retain link to DT?

New DTPO user. I have some documents that I do a lot of editing on. Is it possible to index such a document, and then continue to edit it outside of DT and retain its link as it is resaved? Does it re-index the information within the file, or is that tied to the initial indexing.

Yes. If you edit and save the external file that has been Index-captured into a DT database, the database content will be updated when you either synchronize the file (File > Synchronize) or (if the file is contained within an Index-captured folder) perform the Synchronize command on the containing group.

Likewise, files that have been Import-captured (copied into the database) can be freely edited and saved by an external application via the Open With command. The results of the edit are saved into and captured within the database.
