Cannot import PDFs into DEVONthink Pro 2.5

I upgraded today to DT 2.5 & cannot import files PDFs or PNGs using any of the following methods:

  • File > Import > Files and Folders
  • Drag files into DT
  • Import folder

However, if I go to websites & use the DT extension, I can save Web Archives.

If I drag other files, like ZIPs or TXTs or ODTs, into DT, those import. But PDFs in particular will not import!

I have done the following:

  • restarted DT
  • Gone into DT’s Preferences > Import, & yes, everything under Files is checked

When I look in the Console after a failed import of ONE file, I see the following TWO errors:

Any help fixing this vexing issue is appreciated.

Scott

I have no problem importing such files into DEVONthink Pro Office 2.5, running under OS X 10.8.2 on a MacBook Pro (Retina).

Were the files you failed to import located remotely, perhaps on a NAS server? If so, can you successfully import them if they are located on your computer’s local disk?

I do have exactly the same problem.

No importing of PDFs since upgrade to 2.5

Import from the menu
Inbox from the finder
drag and drop to dock
drag and drop to the sorter

everything fails.

Ok, I did something I rarely do and it worked. I rebooted my MBA. Import of PDFs works again.

As it happens, when flaky things start happening, Rule One is to try a Restart.

I would advocate that this graduates from something you “rarely do” to something you “commonly do”. Machines don’t get rebooted often enough, and especially after software updates, processes can be left running or data exists that need to be flushed.

Had the same issue with 2.5. Wasted hours trying to fault find it. Reboot fixed the issues.

Some people may think it’s just something Support people say when they have no idea what to do but rebooting your machine, especially after an upgrade of software is never a bad idea. More often than not, things behavior better afterwards. (And this is not a DEVONtech issue - it is the nature of computing, whether Desktop or mobile.)

PS: If it doesn’t fix the issue, it’s good when you can open a Support ticket and say, “And yes, I already tried a machine reboot.” 8)

I noticed this too when I first upgraded, but rebooting fixed the issue.

I think when you update, a good general rule is: reboot if you find any sudden issues, and see if they persist.

My last Sun workstation ran Solaris for three years without any trouble or restarting. If only that was possible with Macs and OS X …

I’m sure Apple could make Macs and OS X more fault tolerant.

But then I couldn’t afford to buy one.
