Canon p-215 not recognized

hi,
i got a canon p-215 but i am unable to scan with either the full version of exactscan (error message is: Scanner not ready) nor devonthink office.
dtpo doesn’t recognize the device, exactscan lists it. what am i doing wrong? the canon p-215 is a TWAIN enabled scanner

nevermind. was a wrong hardware setting: auto-start has to be on Off for it to work
