When I write rich text notes based on the Bookends template, I can’t write text in italics and the italics option in the menu is greyed out (see screenshot).
Is there any way I can get my italics back?

It looks like your note is formatted in a typeface that does not include an italic font. If I format a document with Nitti Basic, which does not include a bold style, then bold is not an option (dimmed in the Style menu).
If I change the typeface to Times, which does include a bold font, the option to bold is again enabled in the Style menu.
