I clipped the following webpage to DT using the Firefox extension:
If I select paginated PDF and clutter free, the resulting PDF misses some of the text due to what looks like line wrapping issues. If I select Rich Text and clutter free, the resulting document looks OK.
I expected the resulting document for PDF and RTF to look pretty much the same. Am I doing something wrong?
Running on an m1 Mac with macOS 26.2. DTPro version 4.1.1. The Firefox extension is version 1.5.3 which does seem a bit old but seems to be the current version.
the resulting PDF misses some of the text due to what looks like line wrapping issues.
A screen capture with the issue marqueed would be helpful.
Sure, no problem. Here’s the RTF version:
And the PDF version:
Note that in the PDF version the text is truncated at the right hand side.
What are the Settings > Files > Multimedia settings in DEVONthink?
Set PDF Clipping Width to 612 and try the clipping again.
I set it to 612 and clipped the same page again, unfortunately the result looks the same as before. I tried restarting DT but it made no difference.
Try clipping in Safari instead.
I tried clipping the same page in Safari and the resulting PDF is the same.
I just clipped this page successfully on 26.3 using the same settings:
Does it work after rebooting the computer? Otherwise please try this:
- Open the page in Safari
- Open the Sorter
- Select the Web Clip tab
- Choose Safari
- Clip as a paginated, clutter-free PDF
That’s what I did, a shortcut (see Settings > Sorter) makes the steps 2-4 unnecessary.
Well that’s interesting. Using the sorter to clip from either Safari or Firefox results in a good PDF, but using the browser extension doesn’t.
Thanks for the information, it’s appreciated.
Are the browser extensions no longer supported? It would be nice if they could be fixed.
Yes, the browser extensions are supported. They also function fine on many, many sites. We have also provided more options than using an extension, as you have seen. Also…
Thanks. It’s good to know the extensions are supported and I have used them successfully on many sites, so it was surprising to find one where it didn’t work as expected.
I’m curious what the difference is between using the sorter and a browser extension, as the work seems to be done by DT itself.
