Hello
I am looking for ideas/inputs for a workflow to use DT locally with an imported DB (not indexed), but also to have the relevant data as up-to-date as possible in a secure cloud so that people from outside can also use the database - without DT or DTTG.
The current workflow is that I synchronize the data from the cloud to my notebook - i.e. keep it locally - and then index it from DT.
This has been working quite well recently, but has the disadvantage that I can’t access it myself from outside (with an iPad) via DTTG, but also have to go via the cloud and therefore can’t benefit from the advantages of DT or DTTG.
You can’t “use” a DT database without DT or DTTG. Nor should you. Your current approach is, imo, the best compromise.
I don’t quite follow. Which “advantages” of DT/DTTG are you missing with your way of doing things? While DTTG might have some limitations with indexed data, DT should work just fine with it.
Yes, DT works perfectly, of course. The limitation - as far as I know - is that DTTG cannot use an indexed database. This means that when I am on the road I cannot use my synchronized DT-DB. Or am I wrong?
Alternatively, I can of course carry my notebook with me instead of the iPad. It’s a bit more cumbersome than the iPad, but it’s still practical
I’ve since switched to imported documents, but I used indexed documents in a rather large database for many years and had no issue whatsoever accessing its contents in DTTG. So, I suspect something is screwy with your setup, though I have no idea what. Perhaps clean the sync store and start over.
Nor should anyone have any issue since the documents in DEVONthink To Go are not indexed. They are locally copied into the database as it doesn’t have access outside its sandbox so doesn’t support indexing.
