I know this one must have been asked a thousand times already and I read some of them here but maybe answers change over time: will there be a more fancy date search implemented sooner or later?
I’d like to create a smart group that only shows receipts younger than 2 years for example.

The possibilities of smart groups are extended quite often, therefore it’s at least not unlikely. In the meantime a smart group using the conditions…

that is exactly, what I’m having at the moment … however this will only really give me full 2 years at 31st of Dec of each year, a day later it will only be 1 year and a day.
