DEVONthink 4 viewing PDF thumbnails

I use DEVONthink mainly for paperless office tasks, mostly scanning receipts and other stuff that would normally go into a file cabinet.

I upgraded from DEVONthink version 2 to version 4 thanks to the Black Friday promotion. (Thanks!) Unfortuntely, now I’m struggling with trying to find the same functionality in v4 that I had in v2.

In v2, when I scanned a double-sided receipt and the new scan was selected in the Inbox, I had the main window set up so I could see the page thumbnails AND the “magic hat” (now the “AI” button) in at the same time.

Many of the receipts I scan have a useful back side, and some do not. Sometimes the back side is simply because the receipt was dirty. It USED TO BE simple to see the back side (page 2) thumbnail and delete it if it was not useful BEFORE I assigned it to a group with the “magic hat” button.

Now, in version 4, I can’t find any view option that lets me see the PDF’s thumbnails AND the list of groups that the AI button recommends on the screen at the same time. I have to click the Content>Thumbnails button to see and delete the unnecessary page(s), and then click the “AI” button in order to see the list of groups it can be assigned to.

Am I missing something or did the interface changes in v4 remove this super-handy window configuration??

Welcome @MacBrian
You are years behind and the magic hat has been gone for a long time. In version 4 it is indeed the AI > See Also inspector and the Content > Thumbnails inspector.

You can switch easily between these inspectors via hotkeys, i.e., Control-5 and Control-S.

LOL, yes I know I’m years behind. I had an older dedicated Mac running my Devonthink “file cabinet” and I just stayed with it because it worked and was stable. I got tired of waiting for slow OCR though, so I updated to a M1 Mac Mini — but then that required ScanSnap and Devonthink software upgrades.

Once I get all this sorted with the new software it’s very likely that I’ll fall behind again in the future.

Thanks for the hotkey tip! That should go a long way towards reducing the pain…

Falling a wee bit behind isn’t a big deal but we don’t recommend running versions that old.

And you’re welcome
