DEVONthink and Control of Finder.app

When I save a PDF file from Safari to DEVONthink 4 using the DEVONthink global inbox in Finder, I get a pop-up screen “DEVONthink.app” wants access to control “Finder.app.” The pop-up does not stay up long enough to allow me to press the “allow” button. So I went into the MacOS system settings → Privacy and Security → Automation → DEVONthink and turned on the Finder.app slider.

The next time I tried to save a PDF to the DEVONthink global inbox in Finder, I got the same error, and the automation system setting for DEVONthink was turned off. (I could see it turn off in settings.) Nonetheless, the file was saved to DT, although with a delay.

I uninstalled the global inbox and reinstalled it—same result. And the old version DT 3 was removed from the application folder.

This appears to be a permissions issue. But I am stumped on this one. Any thoughts? Otherwise, DT 4 is working very well.

Thanks.

Welcome @tyhughes

  • Did you reboot the machine after putting version 3 in the Trash?
  • Are you sure you don’t still have version 3’s Inbox’s alias in the sidebar?

The next release will fix this issue.

Thanks for the quick responses. I had zipped but not deleted DT3. So I unzipped it and then deleted it. That moved DT3 and the related configuration files into the trash. I emptied the trash and rebooted. I also deleted and reinstalled the global inbox in the Finder.

The first time I tried to save a PDF from Safari, I got the same momentary pop-up warning, but I was able to click the “allow” tab before it disappeared. Somewhere in all of that, the problem was fixed. The pop-up no longer appears.

Thanks!
