DEVONthink 4.4.1 crashes when I add new files to a database.

I found that disabling:

Settings → Files → Tags - Assign existing tags and Add Chat suggestions to documents

seems to stop the crashes.

With this option enabled, DEVONthink crashes shortly after importing a file. With it disabled, importing works normally so far.

The crash report shows `com.apple.NSURLSession-delegate`, and there is also a `KChatTagger` thread.

It looks like the crash may be related to automatic Chat/AI tagging during import.

Has anyone else seen this?

Since the latest update, there have been too many bugs. The app keeps crashing, and Chinese input in Markdown no longer works properly. I hope these issues can be fixed soon, as the app is now almost unusable.

I also updated my Mac to macOS Golden Gate Version 27.0.1 (26A434), but the bug still persists.

Is there any way to downgrade DEVONthink to the previous version? That version was much more stable.

The app is usable fine here. They tried to improve the MD display in preview, which apparently is not perfect yet – if you turn that off, Chinese input seems to work (at least the standard Pinyin method I tried).

And if you turn off this one setting, import works, too. I’m sure the developers will fix this crash if they can reproduce it. In the meantime, it might be easier to turn it off than to downgrade. In any case, you should find the older DT versions on their website.

Please choose Help \> Report Bug while pressing the Option modifier key to start a support ticket, thanks. In addition, which chat provider/model do you use?

You haven’t encountered these bugs, so you think it’s fine. But imagine you’re in the middle of working and suddenly you can’t type or add files to your DEVONthink database. Then you have to spend time debugging it. I chose DEVONthink precisely because it’s supposed to be stable. Otherwise, why wouldn’t I just use Obsidian?

In the five years I’ve been using DEVONthink on and off, this is the first time I’ve encountered so many bugs in such a concentrated period—and they all affect very ordinary, everyday workflows. Please pay close attention to your code review process. With the rise of AI, rigorous review has become more important than ever. Software can become fragile very easily, and one of the main reasons I love DEVONthink is its stability. I sincerely hope you can preserve that.

See above, a bug report plus more details would be appreciated.

Glad I didn’t upgrade. Looks like it was the right choice so far.

The issue seems to be caused by no more Gemini quota/credits left. Is this correct? Please check your account. The next release will fix the crash but this would also explain why nobody else experienced this.

Thank you for your quick reply. I think your assessment was right — after switching to a different ChatGPT API, DEVONthink is working normally now!
