Could someone tell me or direct me to the process by which DevonThink Personal V.2 would be able to read my V.1 database; I’ve looked but not been able to find an answer…

Assuming that you’re starting DEVONthink Personal 2 for the first time (no preferences, no folder ~/Library/Application Support/DEVONthink 2), then DEVONthink should ask you whether you want to convert you’re existing v1.x database.
Yes Christian, that worked perfectly -thank-you! The reason it didn’t work initially for me is that my DEVONthink V.1 database is kept on a different partition and is referenced to in ~Library/Application Support/DEVONthink by an alias… I’ve used this strategy from the onset to simplify my particular set-up with regards to backups…
To get V.2 to import the V.1 database, I moved the V.1 back to my Application Support folder; I’m off and running testing out DEVONthink V.2 Personal…
