Devonthink Pro Office crashes on start

For some reason, DTP started crashing on me immediately on startup today. I get the good old “DEVONthink Pro quit unexpectedly” box, with the option to report to Apple. Here is the crash report that comes up with it…any ideas? I have done nothing new recently - no updates of any kind, etc. and use the most recent update of DTP. Safe mode does not solve the issue. Thanks in advance for any help…

Please download a new installer from here and replace your current version: Downloads

Do NOT run a third-party uninstaller. If your browser isn’t set to open safe downloaded files, just double-click the ZIP file to decompress it. Then double-click the disk image to open it, and drag and drop the application into the /Applications folder, allowing it to overwrite the old version when you’re prompted.

NOTE: (There is no danger to your data when you do this. (1) Your data is not stored in the application, and (2) we would not give you instructions that would jeopardize your data.)

Also, please check the Forums before posting. This has already been reported more than once. Thanks.

Sorry - I did a couple of searches for crashing on startup, etc. but nothing came up. My apologies…will try this fix. Thanks!

That definitely fixed it. Thanks for the quick fix!

I was having the same issue, and this solution worked for me also. I thought Downloads should have been a link in your original reply, but I was able to find it under the webpage menu item DOWNLOADS.

I had the same issue today and followed the instructions. Happy to report all is working now.

I use 2 different Macs in offices in two different locations. Within the last three days, I’ve had the same problem on BOTH Macs. One runs El Capitan and the other Sierra.

Fortunately, the solution suggested here has worked on the one I’m on today (the El Capitan machine). I’ll try it on the other next time I’m there.

I am also having the same problem with BusyCal (an app from another vendor) during the same time frame.

I’m wondering what has changed. I don’t think I’ve installed any system updates on either machine, and to my knowledge, there haven’t been any app updates either. I suspect that there is something about Apple’s infrastructure — although I thought that DTPO bypassed most of that.

This is an app that I depend upon for critical info, and I need it to be rock-solid. Glad the fix, when I found it, was relatively painless.

There’s some more info here: blog.devontechnologies.com/2017/ … on-launch/

Bumping to keep this at the top for the next person who gets bitten by this, as I was this morning. I was glad to have found and implemented the fix without having to contact Support.

What I find interesting is that the in-place updates to DTPO don’t keep this issue in check. I had actually just recently updated to the latest version, 2.9.14, yet I was still bitten by this until I downloaded the current installer off of the download page.

Isn’t this something that you should be able to make completely transparent for those who download updates on a regular and reasonably timely fashion?

I have the same problem - I’ve pasted the crash log below. I downloaded the full installer and that didn’t help.
Appreciate the help!!

Patrick
