DEVONthink Pro Offoce no longer able to convert PDF to searchable?

I suspect that the issue is 32-bot vs 64-bit, but I have DTPO 2.11 installed. I just tried to convert a PDF to searchable, only to get an error “Bad CPU type in executable”

Is this just telling me that I need to break down and upgrade?

We have posted notifications about macOS Catalina breaking the OCR of DEVONthink Pro Office 2 in time and all over the place, from our website to the blog to our newsletter. And macOS itself warned about it for roughly a year, too, like for all other 32-bit software you might have had installed.

Yes, the OCR in DEVONthink Pro Office 2 is not 64-bit and there is no update from ABBYY here for their version 8 engine. DEVONthink 3 comes with the version 11 engine which is, of course fully compatible to also macOS Catalina.

Can DEVONthink Pro Office 2 use the ABBYY Ocr engine of version 11 when both DEVONthink v2 AND v3 are installed on the same machine?

No, each version can only use its own engine.
