Displaying Nesting Tags

Hi,

I’ve been having a minor issue with nested tags in DTP3. The majority of my tags are nested and I prefer viewing them as columns/lists in DTP over accessing them through smart groups and searches. I know that nested tags always contain tag groupings further up the hierarchy; however, this is not always visible when I view a particular tag. What I would like to know how I can control whether tagged files can be displayed in lists of tags further up the hierarchy.

For clarity’s sake, I’ve provided an image.

Is it possible for the files tagged “Science and Politics” to also appear within the containing tag “Politics and Power?”

I saw a few older threads on the subject (https://discourse.devontechnologies.com/t/tag-hierarchy-parent-tags-should-show-all-descendant-docum/9674/4; https://discourse.devontechnologies.com/t/not-all-content-displaying-when-viewing-hierarchical-tag-con/18076; Tagging hierarchy confusion), but they all concern older versions of DT.

Please let me know if I’m missing something!

Shouldn’t they all be shown under the Themes tag too then?

Yeah I see what you’re saying. I wouldn’t want all of my files to be visible throughout the hierarchy. It would be nice to have control though.

Also, sometimes the files do show up twice. Ex:

(Sorry, these tags are a bit of a mess, but there are duplicates).

If all u need is to “know/see” which tags are under any higher level tags group, u can create a smart group under any tags group (see image below). All tags within the sub-tags group will be shown in the smart group. Just a suggestion.

That’s actually a pretty good work-around! Thanks!
