Finally I have a solution to post for others to use, after all the help I have received from the forums here.
The DTP dock icon quit bouncing when I clipped things to DTP. I ran Disk Utility and repaired permissions, and that seems to have fixed it.
Running 10.5.4, MacBookPro 15.
