Downloading to DTTG4

I just got a new iPad and set it up - obviously I reinstalled the DTTG4 beta and then spent hours while it synchronised with the desktop which brought down the structure of the databases but previously I had part of the db downloaded to the iPad… now I can find how to download an individual file but I can’t download whole groups which I really need to be able to do. Can you help?

Is the sync actually finished?
Long-press the Activity icon in the bottom (looks like a fuel gauge) to see the popover.

It has the zzz symbol??

Did you long-press a group and set Download Files to Always ?

You were right first time - the sync hadn’t finished - 40GB but tool an awfully long time - am I right that DTTG can’t do this in the background?

Now files are there am really enjoying v4 despite the odd crashes which I do report.

One query relates to the Files app - previously if you showed DTTG as one of the locations in the Files sidebar you would not just the folder structure but also the files - now it shows the folders but says they are empty (which the can’t be because the files are there in DTTG) - any ideas?

40GB is a large database. It would also take much longer when using a remote sync option, like CloudKit.

Correct. While DEVONthink To Go supports Background App Refresh, it is controlled by the operating system and it only allows apps to work for a very short amount of time for a very few times per day. Remember, this is on a mobile device with very different battery requirements, especially on a phone. Battery life is prioritized to try to ensure the device runs as long as possible.

Appreciated, though we hope you make sure the crash is consistent and reproducible.

This is a known beta issue.
