DT Hanging Bug When Right-Clicking

Found a DT bug that appears to be reproducible:

DT Pro 3.9.8 on macOS 15.3 (M2 Max CPU)

  1. Open DT and display any list (I use the Inbox on my database)
  2. Switch to another app (e.g. Safari) and arrange the windows so that the DT list is visible when Safari is the “top” (focus) app.
  3. WITHOUT switching back to DT, right-click on any item in the DT list. The normal popup menu will appear BUT the last item “Move to Trash” will not appear (the last item will be “Apply Rules >” instead).
  4. At this point (for me), DT will partly freeze. Clicking other items in the list will NOT select them, even after switching the focus back to DT. The menus and toolbars work, but the item list remains unresponsive until you quit and restart DT…

I have encountered this many times in 3.9.8, though I have not yet found a way to consistently reproduce the partial freeze. Following @drtimhill 's steps sometimes produces the issue, but not always, on my device.

There is a surprise solution without restarting: opening any document externally would resolve the partial freeze. I have no idea why but it does work on my device.

There is not enough information to assess here.
In DEVONthink, hold the Option key and choose Help > Report bug to start a support ticket.

Also, when the application is stalled, do a Spotlight search for Activity Monitor . Select our application in the list of processes - it should show “(Not Responding)” and the name in red - and press Command-Option-S to run a sample on it. When the sample window opens, press the Save button and save it to your Desktop. Please attach this text file to your Support Ticket so we can inspect it.

The app does not stall when that happens. It recognizes and responds normally to all kinds of user input, except the left click. The right click, keyboard shortcuts etc. still work. That’s why my solution (right-clicking an item and then choose Open With) is possible in that scenario. Perhaps I shouldn’t have called it a partial freeze, though I was unable to find a better term. Sorry for the confusion.

I’ll come with additional info and screenshots when it happens again.

It’s another Sequoia bug, I could just reproduce this in DEVONthink and in the Finder. An app shouldn’t be activated by right-clicking in the background but Sequoia does and this causes the app to be in a semi-active state (see menu bar) but the left clicks are not recognized. Switching to another app and back so that the app is really active seems to fix this for both DEVONthink and the Finder.
