It would be extremely helpful to favourite any item in a database, not only a database itself for quick access to often needed objects.
That’s already possible via drag & drop or the contextual menu in views.

No, they’re stored in Favorites.plist.
Would be nice if you could drill down into groups when they are favorited. That is, if they had the disclosure triangle so you could drop down a level and select a subgroup.

Where are you seeing this?
Here, you can see the favorites in the sidebar, a group with no triangle to drill down into, then when I select in the Sorter, the triangle is present and I can go to subgroups.
