I’m trying the DT4 beta and was so excited by the automatic versioning add on until I found out it only works if I edit the document inside DT editors, while I make extensive use of external editors, espcially for markdown. Or is there something I’m missing?
No. It’s limited to the internal editors.
Thank you for the clarification. Hopefully it will be implemented in the future. Keep on with your great work!
In case of external editors there are several bottlenecks, e.g. editing while DEVONthink isn’t even running or editing indexed files on another computer. If it should ever be supported, then it would be less reliable & slower than the internal handling.

I uderstand. But was the manual versioning removed? It was a very handy function that worked very wel but apparently I can’t find it anymore in V4.
These were just some default smart rules, this is still possible.
Thank you a lot. I succeffully exported and imported the smart rule from DT3 to DT4.
