DT4 is running slowly

Hi there.

Is anyone else finding DT4 running quite slowly? I have a 2024 M3 Air with 24GB of RAM and I find that when I am moving between documents, the preview panel is slow to load the new document. Also, I find moving documents between groups is slow.

Is it just me? Is it a beta issue?

There’s not enough information to go on here.

  • How many and how large are your databases?
  • Where are they located?
  • Are you indexing files from the Finder?
    • If so, from where?

I run 4 databases. The largest is about 120GB.

All are located on my internal hard drive.

Nothing is indexed. Everything imported.

I appreciate this is a large database, but this wasn’t an issue on DT3 on this very machine.

FYI I am using DT 4.0 beta 1. I am running a MB with 32GB M1 all my topical DB are above 50GB (0ne is 110 GB) and everything is very fluid and rock solid. Actually it seems to be aven faster than when i was running 3.9.

Overall the performance of v4 should be more or less identical to v3 but in some areas it’s improved. Do you use different smart rules in both versions and/or different global smart groups? How many items and words do all concurrently opened databases contain?

VSQ (Very Stupid Question): Do you have opened the new “AI” (old “See Also and Classify”) sidebar window open while navigating? Because depending on the complexity of your DB and other stuff, navigating with that open could be dramatically slow, mostly moving across PDFs. This is not a complain. I have 8 always opened databases summarizing 640 GB of files and it takes no more than 3 seconds as slowest speed in my new M4 Max Mac Studio with 36 GB of RAM. I wonder how that can be so fast.

The Concordance inspector might also slow down navigating.
