Beachball spinning. It’s basically unusable now. I’ve considered rolling back to DT3 (if that’s possible) - and even downloaded EagleFiler to see if it would be a good replacement. Steps I’ve taken to try to fix it include:
rebooting
rebuilding databases
Getting ready to give up. Looking up the version number now…and even that is spinning. Never had these issues with v3. Activity Monitor shows DEVONthink using 99-100% of the CPU when it spins. Version 4.1
When I force quit DT commonly relaunches and shows Database ‘Inbox.dtBase2’ seems to be already in use!
I hit continue….and then try to open a DB and it’s back to…not working.
Launch Apple’s Activity Monitor application (see Applications > Utilities), select DEVONthink in the list of processes while it’s frozen/unusable, choose the menu item View > Sample Process and send the result to cgrunenberg - at - devon-technologies.com. Thanks in advance!
In addition, version 3 is still available and has been updated last week, see DEVONtechnologies | Legacy Versions. Finally, licenses of version 4 are valid for both versions.
I am also having serious spinning beachball issues with 4.1. The previous releases of 4, including betas, worked well for me. I haven’t upgraded to Tahoe so it’s not that. It repeatedly hangs – not indefinitely, but for far too long. This seems to be triggered – not exclusively but predictably – by the DT plugin for Raycast, which initiates searches via the scripting interface and pulls metadata.
I use Hazel and DEVONthink 4. No issue and knowing how Hazel works it is not integrated into DEVONthink so …. I think there is not need to disable if it is useful to you. Or if disabling it helps, that is surprising and should be reported.
Support says it’s likely because I use a large number of smart folders. Something changed in v4 with handling this. Used the same number of smart folders in V3…no problem. Apparently they are working on an update.
