DT4 - Upgrading to DT4 - seats vs computers question

I have searched these forums for “seat vs computer” and “seats,” and found only posts discussing the old one-time pricing model.

DEVONtechnologies is moving to a flexible subscription model, and I applaud it for two reasons:

  1. I feel better that DEVONthink is not going away due to financial struggles.
  2. The ability to suspend payments for a while without losing fuctionality, and then pay again for new versions; that’s the way to do subscriptions, as it’s almost like the old pay-for-the-new-version model of yesteryear, if the user wants to do it that way.

My question is that according to My Account, I have “2 seats.” According to the new pricing structure, I need only a single seat for v4 on two computers (desktop & laptop). Is the price quoted on the site for a pair of seats, or for 2 computers? Does my license code (which is what the website is quoting to upgrade) incorporate both seats (therefore 3 computers, if I understand correctly), and how would I change that to just 2 computers with one user before upgrading?

Thank you!

The support and understanding is appreciated!

You need a license with two seats, which you get automatically with a purchase or keep with an upgrade. If you purchased an additional seat for DEVONthink 3, that will be included if you upgrade to version 4.

And to be very clear: you extend the license after the first year. Now read that last line again, carefully: you extend the license after the first year. It doesn’t say seats. Those are included in your license.

PS: Nothing at all has changed in regards to what licenses and seats are. This was introduced with DEVONthink 3 six years ago.

PPS: @silop is practically correct. A seat belongs to a particular Mac, allowing the use of the license on it.

And multiple user accounts on one Mac require only one seat, by the way.
