I have recently updated (I use the prefix “up” to denote direction rather than improvement) to Tahoe 26.2 on my Macbook Air M2.
Now my DT4 web clipper (which, since DT4 arrived, has made somewhat intermittent appearances anyway) has completely vanished for good. I cannot find it in Safari Extensions, it does not appear in extensions list anymore and does not seem to be in the “Get More Safari Extensions … “
Has anyone else experienced this behaviour? I would like it back. I do not use any other browser since I like to keep my mac as basic as possible (meaning, apart from DT4 notes, real work is done in a linux VM).
Its late, and as usual for these occurrences, I have lost a little patience - I should have waited to update at a less critical time.
Any assistance gratefully grasped with both hands.
No rebuke intended, but as a rule of thumb, before typing a sentence like the above, it’s best to do a quick forum search first. This is a known issue with Tahoe that has been very extensively discussed here; there is no fix, but there is a simple workaround:
I have the same problem. The suggestions say to download and reinstall “the app” without saying what “the app” is.
Devonthink? Just the Safari extension?
There is no separate Safari extension, also mentioned often.
This is an issue caused by macOS Tahoe. We haven’t determined the actual cause for sporadically evicting our extensions, but you can try this.
- Download a new installer.
- Unzip it.
- Double-click the .dmg to mount it.
- Drag and drop the application to the /Applications alias in the window, overwriting the currently installed version.
- Control-click the window and eject the disk image.
- Launch DEVONthink 4.
- Go to Safari’s Settings > Extensions and enable our browser extension.
Another option is:
- Quit DEVONthink and Safari.
- Do a Spotlight search for Terminal.
- In Terminal, paste:
pluginkit -a "/Applications/DEVONthink.app/Contents/PlugIns/Clip to DEVONthink.appex"and press Return. - Paste:
pluginkit -e use -i com.devon-technologies.think.clipperand press Return. - Type:
exit, press Return and quit Safari. - Launch DEVONthink.
- Launch Safari and check it’s Settings > Extensions.
Lastly, the browser extension is not required. There are multiple options available to you, as discussed in this blog post: The Web Clipping Options in DEVONthink
Just for what it’s worth, I have the same problem with MacBookPro M1, Tahoe 26. I’ve given DT4 Full Disk Access (in Security) I’ve tried the re-install app method describe above several times, and I’ve tried the Terminal.app method. In the “extensions” setting of Safari, when DT4 opens, the extension appears for about a second, then disappears. While I appreciate there are other methods for getting Safari content, I would offer there are no easier ways to capture Safari content in terms of efficiency of movement/clicks. Certainly not the end of the world, but it is indeed strange that the extension loads, then is removed by the OS. Doesn’t happen with any of the other half dozen or so apps I have that load Safari extensions. After 30+ years using Macs, I know these things tend to get fixed in time. Good luck.
It’s a bit odd that after clearing my safari cache, the extension has vanished for me. What’s more, this only seems to happen with the DTP4 extension, not with any of the others. I’m not sure if this is a specific issue with the DTP4 extension or if it’s something that affects safari or macOS in general.
Are all the other extensions from the App Store?
no, they are not…
