DTG item links do not work

Hi there,

I copied a link using DTG 4 “Copy Item Link” option. I then pasted into a text file inside DTG 4 database. Whenever I open the link, nothing happens (the document is not opened). Is that a known bug ?

If you mean, a plain text file, they don’t support any interactive elements, e.g., links.

I’m finding the same behaviour over the past two days. Not sure if it’s related to the latest update.

None of my item links to documents or groups work. DTTG opens but it stays on the last open screen and does not switch to the target item.

It’s like the url scheme is broken.

Have rebooted phone twice but no change.

Totally agree - it’s broken.. NONE of my links works. Anywhere - I can’t find ANY situation where it works.

Internally I can’t open any file through a “Copy Item Link”
Externally I can’t open any file through a “Copy Item Link”

This is a BREAD and BUTTER feature - I understand other functionality is being developed, but this is core. DTG Kepler has a broken leg..

I created a plain text file containing `https://discourse.devontechnologies.com`. I touch that piece of text and safari opens. Isn’t that an interactive element, then ?

I must admit, I could tell the original post was not referring to txt files, Txt files (. When used inside DTTG. ) don’t work because a link just appears as unfunctional text. It doesn’t revert to a highlighted link, at least on my mac running DT. This is totally expected.

Back to the current pesky problem with DTTG

The typical typical files used are Markdown files, RTF, or formatted note. Few will use txt only because of limited functionality,

In these files you can put a link to another database file you want to refer to, Also eg in apps like Bear you can add a link that when you click, it opens the DT file above.

I’m running latest iOS and Kepler. The above works on Mac.

But unfortunately it fails on the current version of Kepler on the App Store.

Thanks for clarifying and the details matter. Universally, plain text does not support such things. Specifically, an app can implement or make use of frameworks to modify certain behaviors. For example, if data detectors aren’t enabled in DEVONthink To Go’s Settings > Text, the normal universal behavior of plain text is shown.

That being said, these are the first reports we’ve received. I have confirmed some kind of regression and will file an issue on it.
What hardware and OS are you running?

Thank you for your reply, @BLUEFROG .

Same for me. Shortcuts or links from other apps that have been working for years no longer work. DTTG opens to last screen, but does not open target item. Using latest version of DTTG on both iPad and iPhone 26.2

Welcome @baillargg

As I noted above, I have filed an issue on this.

This is happening for me as well all of a sudden.

As I already mentioned, there is an issue on file for this, i.e., a known issue, and it should be resolved in the next maintenance release.

Thanks. Is there an estimated time for this release? I’m anxiously awaiting working links!

Sorry but we don’t comment on development timeframes. It’s too dynamic an environment. However, I can confirm they are working in the internal build I’m testing.

I know this has been reported etc, but want to state that this has caused huge issues for me. iPad and Macbook Pro. I use links from DTP to Obsidian, where I write. ALL MY LINKS SEEM TO BE AFFECTED NOW, both on DTP and DTTG. (It appears DTTG created new linknames and then these ended up being synced to DTP). Not sure what to do. It will be a huge effort to recreate the links, and I have no certainty they will continue to work. This is paralyzing. Aaaaaaaaaargh!

This reflects poor testing before release.

We have no other reports of:

  • Any item links not working in DEVONthink 4 on the Mac
  • DEVONthink To Go 4 creating new “link names”.

I have also not seen this behavior here. Screen captures or screencasts would be useful.

Hey Jim

It seems I owe you an apology. I attach a pic from my iPad which shows 3 links to the same article. The top one is the original. The middle one is newly created on the iPad. The last one was created on my laptop, after the second link.

I’m pretty sure I saw and did what I said, so:

  1. I might have just been irrational, or
  2. Might it have happened before my local sync was completed? Even then, it doesn’t make sense.

For now, I’ll have to assume brain fart.

Sending an apology. (I use this linking behaviour literally every day, so it’s a huge concern for me. I think for now, I’ll just … wait.)

Best

Steve

No worries at all
Just wanted to make sure we weren’t missing anything. We try to reproduce reported issues and if we can’t we will ask for more info in case someone is doing something we hadn’t anticipated.

Cheers!
