DTP4 AI Auto-Save Summaries from Chat

Feature Request: Auto-save the Summaries from Chat as metadata (or as a cross-linked file) that is displayed in the Info panel.

Ideal would be to auto-save the summary as meta-data for the file in order to reduce file overhead using the Abstract metadata field that already exists.

The AI Chat feature (using GPT-4o (mini)) works perfectly fine for summarizing a document, including nice output formatting. Unfortunately without a manual click process, there is no way to save this summary, or persist this chat summary uniquely to the selected document. An app like Readwise Reader (using their Ghostwriter feature) can uniquely summarize and persist the meta-data between sessions for a selected document (albiet with lower quality output than what DTP4 produced on the same document).

I can save the output into a file just like the Tools->Summarize document… option but this requires more clicks. Also oddly the formatting gets butchered with the Tools method.

My perference would be to save as meta data vs. a separate file as that will just result in more file/search bloat. Additionally the cross-link for the Tools method is appended to the Summary but there is no mututal cross link from the source to the summary except by Incoming Link reference (useful, but not the same as a pointer from the Source to the Summary).

n order to reduce file overhead using the Abstract metadata field that already exists.

What are you referring to here?

You certainly can easily save a Chat: press Command-S and press the Return key to save the document. Alternatively, choose a format then press Return. The choice of format is retained.

Tools > Summarize Document via Chat uses the format selected in Settings > AI > Chat

In Settings->Data, there is a Custom Metadata field you can turn on called Abstract (multi-line text). This Metadata field could be used to auto-save the AI Summary output from a chat, or having a simple “Summarize” button on the chat page similar to way Readwise Reader handles this common activity.

As a side note, does invoking the summary via the chat menu use the default prompt from Settings->AI? It’s not clear what uses that prompt.

I should have been clearer. The output is what is getting butchered. I just tried it using RTF output and it resulted in an RTF file with no line breaks, or structure similar to the Chat output produced. The output content was also not the same as what the Chat produced (which utilized a simple summary prompt, and not the one listed in the default settings box).
