DTPO Fails all OCR on scans

Similar problem to the most recent thread maybe?

I have just installed DTPO and a brand new ScanSnap 500M. I can scan a document fine but I always get an error dialog in DTPO. I check the system logs and I see:

The RDE Crashdump is attached.

Any suggestions on how to proceed - I think my mac is fairly stock.

Please reinstall your scanner drivers since they are somehow corrupted. This fixed the same problem with another user earlier this week.

I just reinstalled the scansnap drivers and rebooted I still get exactly the same error message from DTPO:

I’m sorry to see you’re encountering such difficulties. I’m afraid this is a subtly different problem. Note the actual error message. It is very strange however and indicates that some data is not correctly installed because the OCR engine is not initialising properly.
Now I would attempt to reinstall DTPO by dragging the existing copy to the trash and copy it from the disk image. Then log out and back in. I hope that would fix this for you. Let us know otherwise at support@devon-technologies.com

Just tried on my MacbookPro - same software everything works. G4 MDD FW800 still has problem

In that case your G4 definitely has problems. Try all the regular cleanup procedures: caches, repair permissions etc.
Last week I had a strange problem where an AppleScript didn’t work with a new build of DTPO. The day before it worked perfectly. Once I removed all the contents of all Library/Cache folders and rebooted my machine, it worked again.
The moral of the story: Mac OS X suffers from bitrot and you need to clean the system from time to time.
