DTPro search question...

My DT database (v2.0pb8) has a huge variety of stuff in it. I use it as a “junk drawer” of sorts. One of the types of data I store in it is email messages. I use the “Add Message(s) to Devonthink” script from Apple Mail (I’m on SL, 10.6.2). The add action works fine, and the email message appears as expected in DTPro.

In previous versions, I was able to enter a search term in the search box (upper right corner) and it would find text in the bodies of various emails - worked like a charm when trying to find, for instance, when i received an order confirmation for a piece of software. Now, in pb8, it doesn’t seem to search in the email bodies at all. I get subject/filename matches, but nothing from within the .eml files.

for instance, i have an email with my registration info for USB Overdrive. The software title appears in the email body, but not in the filename. Performing a search for “overdrive” returns no results, even though i’m looking at the message in question and staring at the text “USB Overdrive” (case doesn’t seem to make a difference). I’ve tried this with multiple search terms (all single words, so no wildcards or boolean keywords or anything).

Am i missing something, or has this function been changed?

I cannot reproduce this over here. I just imported your message from the RSS feed in Mail using the same menu item. Then I searched for “USB Overdrive” and found it immediately. Maybe you can send that message (zipped! thank you) to support@devon-technologies.com and we can take a look at it.

i don’t have a problem sending that email, but i have hundreds that aren’t (apparently) parsed. i run the ‘verify & repair’ and ‘backup & optimise’ routines regularly (normally with no errors), and i’ve tried the ‘rebuild database’ command as well. with THAT, the import jumped through all 500-some-odd .eml files, noting them as ‘unknown formats’ and didn’t parse any of them that weren’t in HTML.

is there some sort of maintenance i can run to re-read/re-index files?
