DTTG 3.8.15 sync doesn't work

If you have a moment: in DEVONthink, hold the Option key and select Help > Report Bug.

Thanks – will do.

Quick question – that opens Apple Mail, which I don’t use. Is there another route for opening other mail clients?

You can just go to our support ticket system and we can go from there.

Thanks.

Yes, I noticed today as well that synchronization in DTTG wasn’t working. Later I saw a post saying it’s recommended to completely delete the app until Apple approves the new version.

However, in my case the database apparently wasn’t affected, only a few documents had their Last Modified date updated to today, but I didn’t notice any missing/corrupted files. Verify & Repair also didn’t show any errors, same as Quick Verify for synchronization. Still, it definitely added a couple of months worth of paranoia :frowning:

Off-topic: with the latest versions of DT 3, for some reason the database itself has also started taking a few seconds to load, whereas before it was instantaneous in my case.

Welcome @majaye

Do you not have proper, primary local backups on your Mac?

Thanks! Fortunately, I had a backup. After comparing the file counts in the databases, it turned out that no files were lost.

By “paranoia”, I meant that I now feel a bit afraid using DTTG 3. Unfortunately, I can’t afford to upgrade at the moment, so I’ll most likely continue using DT 3 without DTTG until the end of the year, and then upgrade to version 4 (hope so).

You’re welcome!
You should be fine once 3.8.16 is approved.

Notice to users who are NOT seeing duplicated databases

If you are experiencing an issue with DEVONthink 3.8.15 not syncing, do NOT go into your sync location and toggle databases off and on again.

We are currently investigating what you should do after updating to 3.8.16 or migrating to version 4.

The same disaster is happening for me now. Ihave DT and DTTG on both iphone and ipad. I contacted support Friday and they told me how to restore the database on my iphone. My ipad had not updated and was still working.I could not figure out how to stop the automatic update from happening on IOS, but I also did not think that you would leave the corrupt file up for long enough to kill my ipad too. On my iphone, I made the mistake of trying to manually sync and destroyed thousands of enties in multiple subgroups. The tell is that the sync icon in the database itself disappears. I have not made the mistake of manually updating on my ipad, but given that the disaster has continued for two days, I am quite unnerved. I have been a long time user and nothing like this has remotely happened before. The database I am working with has been cultivated for years and contains all my data. I hopefully have a backup on my desktop but they are not tested and I am quite unneverved by this. can’t something be done to get the corrupt update off the server and provide the last stable update before everyone destroys all their files?

We don’t “have a server” and we’re not hosting your data (or anyone’s). I have already responded to your support ticket.

By “server,” I meant whomever or whatever hosts the corrupted program file that apparenlly is causing the problems. I had looked into stopping the upadates to IOS to protect my Ipad, but did not see a straightforward way to do so; I am not familiar with the IOS process. I gather that you have to leave that to the Apple AppStore and have less control than would be ideal? In any case, it would be helpful to know 1) when a fixed update is in place and 2) whether the updated file will be enough to restore what has until yesterday the rock-solid stability of DT that I have come to rely upon. thx.

The App Store is tightly guarded and controlled by Apple. We even have to wait for them to review and approve our updates.

It’s almost 3am and I’ve been racking my brain testing and trying to determine possible resolutions, so I need to sleep a bit. Please refer back to your ticket. Thanks.

DTTG 3.8.16 has now gone live on the iOS App Store! Just downloaded the fresh update… thanks to the developers for the quick response!

How to proceed now? Can we safely open DTTG (didn’t toggle databases off/on before)? Or should we wait for your further guidance?

DEVONthink To Go 3.8.16 should just work as 3.8.14 did before. When .15 didn’t cause any damage you should be safe opening it.

Thanks.

I got the update and my devices are now all in sync okay - thanks :folded_hands:

This is something that you can control on the device side. Look at the Settings → Apps → App Store pane.

Thanks for confirming the fix!
