DTTG4: can’t download a document

Dear community,

I have a document in DEVONthink To Go 4 on my iPhone that, for some reason, I can neither access nor download. The download button is grayed out.

I currently have both iCloud/CloudKit and Bonjour sync enabled.

Has anyone encountered this before, or have any suggestions for what I could check?

I also noticed a small issue when importing photos. If I edit a photo directly in the iPhone Photos app—for example, adjusting the contrast—and then add that photo to DTTG4, DEVONthink seems to display the original version without the edits.

I often increase the contrast of photos of documents before importing them, so it would be useful to preserve those adjustments. I assume this may have something to do with how Apple Photos stores edits non-destructively.

Is there a way to make sure DTTG4 imports the edited/rendered version of the photo rather than the original?

Thank you!

Does this mean you have on the iPhone Bonjour switched “on” to allow “incoming connections”. If so, that might be wrong if on the other device (computer) you have it “on” also. Only one device in a network should be set to allow “incoming connections”.

I don’t know if that affecting your issue, but give it a check.

No, it’s the other way around: my Mac is the origin, all other devices connect to it.

But I also have iCloud enabled, so…

There might be a quick fix someone knows. I know this same issue discussed in this forum probably more than a few times in the past.

Off the top of my head:

  • check that sync locations are indeed online, not greyed out
  • look for a triangle on the sync icon … if there, tap to see if any messages
  • available space on the iPhone?
  • restart the iPhone
  • adjust the download option from what it is to something else
  • are the files on the Mac indexed or imported? if indexed, are they available to the Mac running DEVONthink?
  • Verify and maybe repair the Mac DEVONthink database?
  • Anything reported in the log on Mac?
  • Troubleshooting guide in DEVONthink ToGO “help” might help

Thanks for all the suggestions.

On a closer look, I’ve noticed that the issue is not only this particular document but the group state in general: I’ve closed the DT on my Mac and opened it again. This time, I had to open the DBs again (my Mac’s OS was recently updated).

This time, the group has synced between the iPhone and Mac. And I also could have opened the document in question.
