All of a sudden, dragging and dropping with the option key down has stopped duplicating the selected item. Selecting and holding the mouse key down while I drag does show the object dragging, and duplicating, to the new position, but then the duplicate disappears as soon as I release it.
I’m using DTP4. I’ve done this in DTP3 for two or three years and more recently in DTP4. It has worked until just recently. Strangely, dragging-to-duplicate procedure also works fine in other apps, including Finder, Scrivener, and Mail.
I took another look at the database (DTP 4.1, dtBase2, stored locally). I see now that it was the only db with the inability to duplicate stuff. As I explained in my previous post here and as shown in the video, I can drag it with the option key pressed and drop it in place, but no new iteration remains. The dragged file name just disappears.
The database is locked, which is a mystery. Unlocking in its Info window appears to work, but it actually stays locked. I’m still unable to duplicate anything within it. Other databases I’ve tried are able to duplicate files and groups as normal.
Naturally for a locked file, the usual troubleshooting options (verify & repair, optimize db, rebuild, etc) are grayed out. The only available option is to check file integrity, and even that says only, “Successfully verified integrity of 0 files.”
I noticed the non-duplication problem after a series of significant system upheavals: a reinstalled system and restoration of data, followed by a logic board replacement and a second restoration of data. Each of the three backup systems appeared to have been at least slightly corrupted.
So is anyone now willing to say what might have gone wrong and, more important, ideas for how to fix it?
In the Finder, the file is locked, and unlocking appears as an option but seems to have no effect (the file is still locked).
Verification of the database is not available, grayed out in the menu, along with optimize and rebuild. Only the option to check file integrity is available, and that returns nothing but a zero.
