Email import - mixed up / flattened folder structure

Well funny enough I guess thats why I cant find it , but I think I have been a Devonthink fan for at least that long. Even when the help manuals or online help areas , the information is outdated.

Using online research i get responses tellling me to look there there. Also , using Perlplexity, the information on how to use Devonthink 4 is not accurate . So I guess AI there is referencing old manuals.

I did click on Tools/Import and dont see any option to import from either Mail or Outlook. I am sure I am doing something wrong. I always blame myself when things are not behaving the way they should.

I am trying the shortcuts suggested in the Settings / File / Hotkeys and it seems to be doing something. I am waiting to see the results. I removed Devonthink 3 from my computer so I am just using the 4.1.1. Version … I just started it and installed it on Mac and the 4 version for Devonthink to go… I will spend the next few days trying to get it to work as I have gotten used to the programs having been a loyal member from very , very , long ago……

OH, I am pretty sure its the Pro version…. Had been using that since it came out as well

Select Help > Support Assistant and click the Welcome link at the bottom of that window. What is shown?

What is the URL or DEVONthink Menu command that has “outdated” help, and what do you mean by “areas”?

What “online” research sources do you use to get this erroneous information? Are these sources your routine “go-to” for documentation and help on DEVONthink?

Please re-read @bluefrog’s kind response above.

It says welcome to Devonthink Serv\er.

I was unable to respond to your last suggestion last night.

I had re-installed the Devonthink 4.1.1 from my Devonthink account . I now see the import function

Thank you for the help and patience.

No worries and indeed the Server edition include email handling.

I’ve not tried importing email into DT yet but have recently been looking for a tool to save/archive/access my emails beyond Time Machine backups. I would like to be able to access them in the same structure as in Apple Mail - and either automatically oder periodically update the “archive” as new mails arrive.

Now I just discovered that the flattening described by jeep is also present for me on macOS 15.7.2 in DTPro 3. That means it’s not (just) a DT4 issue.

The DT import sidebar shows Apple Mail correctly showing each of my four active mail accounts including their IMAP or Exchange structure (Inbox, sent, trash, etc.). But the local folders I use to sort mail out of the inboxes into a systemised hierarchical folder structure are all shown (under a > Local header) on the same level, alphabetically sorted.

This makes it unusable for my purposes. @BLUEFROG Any thoughts?

Are you pushing the Archive Mailbox or Import button?

This is actually a known limitation of the old email import feature in version 3, as Apple Mail plugins are no longer supported on modern macOS versions. The partially rewritten import of version 4 no longer has this problem.

Thanks for clarifying this. Yes, that’s what I see in DT4.1.1 - all the mailboxes with the structure as in Apple Mail.

I guess I need to complete the switch from 3 to 4.
