Golden Gate 27.0.1, DT 4.4.1:
I can no longer send emails from DT using the drop-down menu option. When I click on that option, DT brings up Safari if I have no browsers open. If I have a browser open and minimized, DT will bring that up. What might I have done to bring this punishment down upon me? Oh, I know: Apple. I’m not liking Apple very much right now…
Which option exactly did you use? The system-wide Sharing menu or DEVONthink’s own possibility to send emails, see Data > Send by Email?
In Apple Mail application Menu: Settings → Tab: General, what do you have set for “Default Email Reader”, which might be interfering. I’m unaware of other settings in macOS about mail app to use, but there might be something.
I’ve experienced that with earlier versions as well. Restarting DT fixed it.

I tried re-starting DT last night before I posted my observation. It didn’t make any difference. I restarted DT again, just now, and it made no difference.

That fixed it. I did not change anything in Mail after I downloaded and started using the Brave web browser so I can only guess that Brave has a default that allows it to take control of Apple Mail for some reason. Thank you very much for your suggestion!!

rmschne suggested that I take a look at an Apple Mail setting. I did and discovered that when I downloaded and installed the Brave browser, it decided to mess with my Apple Mail settings. I changed it back to what it was before downloading Brave and all is fine now.
