Enhancing the use of Favorites

Yep, thank you Frank and Jim! - I’ve been using KM for a while now exactly like that, and of course it works great. I used to use it with palettes and Cmd keys.

What ExtraBar now affords me, and BTW they just released an iteration that is very script-aware (zsh, bash, Applescript and more) - is that I can place an icon in the menubar, just like XMenu (great by the way) and populate it with different “folders”, each with its own set of deeplinks and other items such as all sorts of actions and scripts.

So I copied all my (quite a few) favorites as deeplinks to different ExtraBar folders.

I may do what Frank suggested, and create a smart group with items tagged “favorite”, and from this one populate the favorites side bar in DT. That way, I can use a script (via json) to update ExtraBar when I update the favorites in DT.

It’s very smart, and being iterated very very fast, and I’m enjoying using it.

(Because, why not  )

Jim, this one’s a classic.

I do still use it tho ha ha

Maybe I don’t quite understand, but as I understand it, this is a nightmare to maintain when you have lots of favorites that change frequently.

@uimike You obviously know something about scripting, unlike me  Then tags are probably a good option. I use a simple macro that puts a ; in front of the name of a document and removes it again. This way, it appears in the smart group or not. It’s reliable, fast, and requires no special knowledge.

my favorite list doesn’t change very much itself - some of the favorites are md, numbers spreads or other items that get edited very frequently, others are important documents, or smart groups for tags such as “Manual”, “License” and so on.

I use a “-“ often for the same purpose as you :+1:

Well, that’s not universally true. Many people use a very static set of favorites.
