I am very happy with DT on macOS. However, I may need to have database available for a family member who refuses to use a Mac. I know one can export individual files. However, what is the best way to export the files with the group folder structure so that on a windows PC one can at least have all files with the DT organization ?

Just select the group(s) you want to export and choose File > Export > Files and Folders. I suggest you export to a newly created Finder folder to keep things corralled. And yes, this exports a group and its subgroups, in case you wondered.
