Just checking the back door out: I have imported lots of e-mails into a new DTP 2 database. Works beautifully, and a great improvement to keep e-mail format!
When I try to export as unix mailboxes, however, it seems that I have to select actual messages to be exported; in other words, I cant export a group of messages by selecting the group; far less select a group hierarchy to be exported. Will this be possible?
There is always room for improvement in the future.
You could use Smart Groups though to select the messages you want.

If you’re talking about the export creating a hierarchical set of mailboxes in a folder hierarchy, that’s a bit of a tall order.
