Authentication probably means something about NAS authentication which probably has nothing to do with DEVONthink but with the NAS and your computer.
Re on a NAS, the following post explains why putting a database on a NAS is not recommended.
DEVONthink databases are not multi-user databases. The proper way of setting all this up would be to use synchronisation to make copies of the database on each device. You can setup sync services with your NAS using WebDAV if it has it, or better, use Bonjour. All this described in the “DEVONthink Manual”.
How? Usually, DT does not allow installation of databases in remote locations. So, are you accessing them by mounting the NAS folder via SMB? And how does that work with iOS?
Or are you simply syncing your devices using the NAS as a WebDAV server?
Your description lacks a lot of necessary details, please provide those.
sorry about, yes I am syncing the database with webdav on my synology-NAS … it worked so far fine - as written above, I assume its not a DT problem…
Try connecting to your NAS from Finder, using the same credentials (username & password) and URL as in your sync settings.
Do not try that in Safari, please.
And please remember that not a single of your databases is “on” your NAS. They’re all local to the devices, the NAS is just a sync location. Terminology is important and applyiing it correctly avoids useless back and forth question/answer games.
Hey @kolvi & @chrillek
regarding the NAS connection (Qnap) I set Resillo.
It’s possible to have a strong sync result (with Tags) in P2P. I set up for only one Mac as a server. The other devices are sync With Bonjour on the Mac Server.
I’m doing that because I would like to access to all my files directly in the finder, not in a DT database. (to read it with Obsidian). Only the Mailboxes are in the database, all the files are Indexed in DT.
Then, I can read the files in both DT or Obsidian, and my server sync the master files in my Nas with a strong backup strategy (Qnap 123). Resillo save your file version every time there is modification , no ressources are need from the MAC (is P2P) less than Time Machine process
I have my private cloud, safe sync with DV and Obsidian
Thanks for the info. But that is an entirely different setup than the one of the OP. Not to mention that you could simply use SMB to mount your directories wherever you want. What would be the advantage of a “Sync to all devices” strategy compared to a “mount what I need” strategy?
You are right @chrillek why not make it simple?
SMB or WebDav avoid to get the files on my laptop , this access is fast and You have to long one time a day. 2 limitation for that :
1/ I think that I’m trying it the beginning of my set up ,but I can’t update Tags.
Perhaps it’ s works in Webdav , but not in SMB (in Qnap).
2/ Obsidian not sync with SMB unfortunalty, neither Webdav.
3/ In the end if I understand xell @rmschne is it possible to put your files in the Nas , sync with all devices (by indexing) and stay the DDB of DV in each devices?
Also I have now the versioning Backup with Resillo, it’ s a must!

All - many thanks for the valuable comments. From my point of view we can close this topic; I disabled (for the time being) my WebDAV Sync and enabled icloud. In parallel I am continuing to investigate on my connection issue with Fritz.box setup.
As I said: Make sure that in your FritzBox, all devices in your home network are allowed to talk to each other.
