Feature Request: Customizable Home Screen in DTTG 4

Hi everyone,

First of all – DTTG 4 is a fantastic update. Smart groups, custom metadata, the new UI – really well done. Thank you for all the hard work!

That said, there’s one thing that’s been bugging me for a while: the home screen in DTTG is completely fixed. You always land on the same default view with databases, inboxes, smart groups, and trash. There’s no way to pin specific groups or folders to the top for quick access.

My use case: I have a “Years” database with folders for each year. My daily workflow starts in the current year’s folder – but getting there requires several taps every single time. Favorites exist, but they’re tucked away under Global Smart Groups, which is an extra tap as well.

I ended up building a workaround using the official “DT Quick Launch” shortcut – individual item links placed as icons on my iOS home screen. It works, but honestly, it feels like something that should just be possible inside the app itself.

DEVONthink on the Mac is incredibly customizable – that’s one of the reasons we all love it. It would be wonderful to bring some of that flexibility to the iOS home screen. Even something simple like letting us pin a few favorite groups to the top of the database list would make a huge difference for daily workflows.

Anyone else feeling this way?

Thanks& GlückAuf!

There’s the Favorites global smart group that was meant exactly for this: keeping references to all the important places in your databases.

Thanks Eric! I’m aware of the Favorites smart group and I use it via the star icon in the toolbar. My point is: in Settings > Interface, we can already merge Inboxes and Tags onto the home screen . It would be amazing to have a similar toggle for Favorites – something like “Show Favorites on Home Screen.” That way our pinned folders would appear right alongside the databases, without needing the extra tap on the star. Would that be feasible? Do i mss something? I have to be honest – I just can’t wrap my head around why I’m not able to set up my start screen the way that works best for me. DEVONthink on the Mac is all about making the app truly your own….

Well, iOS apps are more inclined towards simplicity than copying their complex Mac counterparts 1:1. And the launch screen is already crowded for many people. But, we’ll keep your request in mind.
