Feature Request Web Interface Preview

DEVONthink 4 looks amazing — really looking forward to it.

One request:

In the macOS app, many file types (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, PDFs, images) can be previewed.

But in the web interface, most of them just say “File format not supported.”

Please make the web version able to preview the same files, even read-only.

DEVONthink uses macOS’ Quick Look technology to support most third-party file formats on the Mac but this technology is not compatible to the web. Therefore only standard file formats (images, PDF, HTML, plain/rich text, Markdown, sheets) are currently supported by the web interface.

Thanks for the explanation.

I understand that Quick Look itself isn’t compatible with the web.

But would it be possible to generate Quick Look previews as static images on the DEVONthink (e.g. when indexing), and display those in the web interface?

Even a simple image snapshot of the file—like what’s shown on macOS—would be very useful for browsing and identifying files remotely.

Thanks again.

Would it be technically difficult to generate Quick Look previews as images and display them on the web? Even static snapshots would be very useful.

This should be indeed possible and is now planned.
