Filtering by tags in the iOS app?

I created a new database and imported, organised and tagged all my files into the Mac app. I set up iCloud sync with the iOS app and confirmed that I can view all files and see their tags (the database is set to always download on iOS).

But I’m unable to filter files by tags like I can on the Mac app. I have the following tags set up for example:

fruit, fruit-salad, tropical, vegetable

If I type tags:fruit; in the Mac app’s search field I get the correct results, i.e. only items tagged fruit and not fruit-salad.

But on iOS it shows me all files in the group, even those that do not have the fruit tag. This happens both with live search and after pressing the search button on the keyboard.

And if I type tags:tropical tags!=vegetable I get no results at all, even though the Mac app gives correct results. I also tried using tag: instead of tags: but it didn’t help either.

Am I missing something? Is the syntax for filtering different on iOS? I tried restarting the app a few times but that didn’t help at all.

I am on v3.8.9 of the iOS app (iOS 18.3.2) and v3.9.8 (macOS 15.1).

My database is 99% PDF files (about 400 in total) organised in groups (no nested groups). The total database size is around 150 MB.

EDIT If I search for tags:"fruit" on iOS I get the correct results (i.e. no fruit-salad). But I still can’t figure out the equivalent of tags!=vegetable.

DEVONthink and DEVONthink To Go are not the same applications and not on the same platform so no, there is not full feature parity between them. Our development teams work to improve these things over time, especially as technologies change.
