Hi, I created Group Tags in a base, imported items in it through DT Safari clipper + sorter, but most of the tags do not show up in the tags panel ?
I waited, then quitted an relaunched DT : no change.
Any idea ? Did I miss something ?
The Tags in the sidebar include only ordinary tags as group tags are just groups which are also used as tags. But you could e.g. use a smart group to find both types of tags.

So in the upper left sidebar are tags which has been defined initially as tags, not tags resulting from a group tag, correct ? Though they are listed in the files metadata as normal tags, and look the same ?
Strange and confusing. I did not see this issue when reading the tagging section of the help / manual..
I use tags -and nested tags- as folders in NotePlan, Obsidian.. and never had such an issue of different types of tags with different behaviours.
Plus in Obsidian, Note Plan.. the group tags let me keep the benefit of a folder structure I have no more access to after opting for group tags in DT…
Is there a setting allowing to use both type of tags the same way, or automatically merge them ?
If not, can I now revert my database to ‘normal’ tags + standard DT folders/groups, as my intention of using these groups tags as both tags and folders now seems ruined by this confusing misunderstanding ?

The Tags group displays ordinary Tags and indeed that is documented.
Though they are listed in the files metadata as normal tags, and look the same ?
Group tags should appear as three stacked rectangles; ordinary tags appear singular.
In the Generic info inspector, the tags appear the same until you hover in the field…
Development would have to assess this behavior.

There is no standard tagging behavior so the implementation in NotePlan, Obsidian, etc. is just how they handled things.

No, and they aren’t necessarily meant to be used in the same way. Group tags are dynamic, changing based on location or exclusion of a parent group from group tagging. Standard tags are static and travel with the document.

There is nothing to “revert”. Select the database and choose File > Database Properties and enable Exclude Groups From Tagged and group tags are disabled for it. Simple.
OK, thanks, understood. I excluded groups from tags, I now get ‘standard’ groups corresponding to the group tags I had created. So these group tags work.. as groups, and both ‘tags groups’ and ‘groups’ views are ‘interchangeable’ (does this word exist in English ?). Which may sound obvious, but was not for me until now, thanks.
What I still have to get is why use these group tags instead of groups ? To see in the metadata which group a file belongs do, I guess ? Other benefits ?
Can I repeatedly go back and forth between the two ways of displaying groups (checking and unchecking ‘exclude groups from tags’) without consequences, or loss of data or metadata ?
The next release will fix this.
