Have only one sidebar?

I have Devonthink Pro Office. I want a sidebar on the left with my databases, groups and smart groups so I can easily browse my files.

It seems that I cannot put groups in the main bar on the left and need a second bar attached to that one for groups - whilst I can put smart groups in the main bar.

Am I missing something here? Surely I do not need 2 separate side bars taking up valuable screen real estate to do this?

Thanks!

You can put Groups in the Favorites, but the Global Sidebar is for just that: Global Items. Also, there are several Views to use under the View menu.

Thanks for your quick reply! So I take it that it is not possible. Most other document management apps use only one sidebar and it looks much tidier (and is more intuitive IMHO). I appreciate that Devonthink is more powerful though that should not compromise useability. Hopefully the team will consider this for a future release.

Use Three Panes view, for example, and the groups of the current database are shown in their own sidebar. Hide/Reveal the global sidebar with View > Show Sidebar or ^⌥⌘D or add the Navigation widget to your toolbars and click the sidebar show/hide icon.

Navigation Widget

Many thanks korm - that is what I ended up doing. But then I cannot see the items on the main sidebar. I still think it would be easy enough for all the sidebar items to go into just one sidebar.

A future release will definitely revise this.
